JBeC Glossary of Terms

Crisis

A destabilizing emotional, psychological, or relational event that overwhelms your ability to cope using your normal tools. Crisis requires faster support but is not the same as an emergency.

Non-Crisis

Stress, emotions, or conflict that feel difficult but do not impair safety or functioning and can wait for a scheduled session.

Stabilization Session

A 60-minute session focused on grounding, calming the system, restoring clarity, and helping you regain emotional footing.

Crisis Stabilization Session

A session scheduled specifically to support you through a destabilizing event. Shorter response times apply depending on your tier.

In-Home Session

Any session held outside the office or virtual space—such as your home, a park, or a neutral safe location—when safety and appropriateness are confirmed.

After-Hours Access

Support provided outside standard business hours (evenings).
Must be pre-arranged, non-crisis, and is always limited by blackout dates and safety.

Weekend Access

Sessions or communication available on weekends when scheduled in advance and clinically appropriate.

Priority Scheduling

Faster access to appointment openings, based on the benefits of your chosen tier.

Spot-Stabilization Call

A short (15–20 minute) non-crisis call used for grounding, clarity, decision making, or emotional reset.

Asynchronous Messaging

Structured, brief communication through text or voice notes for:
• updates
• clarifications
• stabilizing guidance
Not used for:
• storytelling
• long emotional processing
• conflict mediation
• crisis escalation

Blackout Dates

Times when the provider is unavailable due to travel, illness, professional needs, or designated time off.
All tiers honor blackout dates.

Backward Billing

Additional billing applied when a client consistently uses care beyond what their tier includes (e.g., excessive messaging, multiple crisis sessions, or in-home requests).

Crisis Event

A destabilizing situation that requires quicker support but does not meet emergency levels (panic spikes, shutdowns, acute overwhelm, relational escalation, etc.).

Emergency

Any situation involving immediate danger to you or someone else.
Requires 911, BHR, or the nearest ER.
Emergency situations are not handled by a crisis retainer.

Standing Block

A reserved weekly or bi-weekly time slot used in Tier 3 for individualized or family-flexible sessions.

Clinical Appropriateness

The provider’s determination that a service or request is safe, ethical, and appropriate for the situation.

Parenting Session

A session focused on parenting strategy, emotional co-regulation, and stabilizing the home environment.

Household / System

A group of people connected through living arrangement, parenting, or relational dynamics, all of whom may be affected by destabilization.

Safety Plan

A personalized written plan detailing warning signs, coping tools, support contacts, and steps to take during crisis or destabilization.
